There is a perception that women are supposed to fit a certain mold: well put together, demure and fill a support role while men lead. There are limited opportunities for women to have their voices heard. You see very few women being promoted into Director and executive leadership roles. The work is great, however. It's an exciting place to work with bright colleagues, many of whom are generous with their time and talent. If you are a woman with a direct approach to conversation, you'll have to find a way to "tone it down" in order to be successful here - no matter your talent.

There have been recent efforts to introduce more flexible working arrangements into the office, however, it's not enough to meet the needs of 2-working-parent-households. Associates are allowed to work from home 2 days per month. Office hours are rigid with the expectation of 8-5. If you are in at 7 and try to leave at 4, you feel like you're watched/judged.

This company truly believes that a combination of Short-Term Disability and PTO is a maternity leave policy. It is not. 12 Weeks Total, assuming you've saved ALL of your PTO allotment for the year (including sick leave): 1 week PTO 5 weeks STD (paid at 60%) 4 weeks, 2 days PTO 1 week, 3 days unpaid leave Return to work with 0 days of leave

Magna Electronics review I am overqualified for my job responsibilities and I am overlooked on many advancement opportunities, I've been working here two year and I have not been assigned any engineering opportunities and have been subjected to "gaslighting" by my manager.

Yes, because it's a great company. But we are definitely lacking a woman's presence in our management team and I think they need a woman's opinion on some things.

February 2016

While flex hours are offered, and laptops available, working from home is not encouraged and looked down upon. I've worked for the company for 2 years and there really are a lot of great women working here but management is male-dominated. My department is very supportive of women and young engineers in general - but we seem to be the exception. In recent years that has been a great push for hiring female engineers out of college so there is a large young workforce. Field experience is the unspoken rule for advancement, but there is not a lot of support for women once they get to the field. Women network mostly by volunteering to organize office events and socials. Established women's organization strongly supported by upper management, though they have low turnout.

December 2015

If you have to travel for the position there is no way you could have a small child. If you had a desk job it would be possible but know that the maternity leave accommodations are the minimum required by law. You will need to first use all of your sick time and vacation time. People are generally pretty understanding if someone has to leave to get a child at daycare or stay home because a child is sick. If you travel you will not see the same type of leniency. You may travel less the first year but it will go back up. The extra daycare costs can't really offset the pay when traveling.
