The Board members are 90% men yet they only hire women for staff. The men want to call the shots and are more comfortable telling a woman what to do than a man. A certain understated lack of respect is present.

Top management has strong biases, and culture flows down from there. Typical stuff, a woman makes a point and is ignored. A man makes the same point and is celebrated. A woman asks a question, and top management directs the answer to a distinguished-looking male as though the question was asked by him. A clear policy against telecommuting combined with long hours, last-minute travel requests and routine demands for availability during off-hours and vacation makes it tough to maintain here long-term unless you have no family, or a spouse who can take care of the household and tolerates this.

Women and people of color are mainly hired for support roles. There's only one female SVP, and she just got promoted in the smallest division. Maternity leave is guaranteed, but only that required by law. Anyone who adopts only gets the FMLA non-paid minimum (a former co-worker adopted and got half the leave time as other women, even though as she pointed, the bonding time was extremely important for adoptive parents - and the COO at the time had an adopted son).
