"There are options, but it requires flexibility and making some sacrifices on the home front. Having a supportive partner is essential "

"It is always going to be a trade-off in consulting: you will need to request home office based cases, which means you will not get chance to pick the industry, manager etc.
In addition it can be hard to be able to commit to leaving at 6PM on a regular basis given the standard number of worked hours (>60/wk) in particular when the employee has not yet reached Manager level. There is always the option of internal case, but that will only be possible for 6 months and will have career progression implications."

"Your experience (lifestyle, job responsibility, overall statisfaction) can really vary from case to case, depending on who you work for. Invest in finding strong mentors early on before you might need them and then try to work with those people."

"If you make it to a certain level (manager or above), the company is more supportive and invested in you staying. However, if you're in a promotion window, you're in a hard spot since the messaging is if you really want this promotion, be ready to work like crazy for the next year."
