"There are women rising in leadership, but make sure that you advocate for yourself with your pay and "social currency" standing. At some level there are still the "old boys" who do business on the golf course and socialize with each other, so either do your best to join 'em or beat 'em."

" I can only speak for field jobs in store management. College bookstore hours are long and tough at the beginning and end of every semester, but they last for only a couple of weeks at a time. I know that at the Home Office there is some flexibility in regards to working from home (Source: second-hand accounts)."

"My store manager was not supportive of my growth or desire to learn, but she was 1 of 3 managers I had in my 10+ years tenure, and the other 2 were supportive. My regional manager was very supportive of me over the years; however, at the end, I felt that my position was expendable and he would support a store manager who is harder to train and replace."
