"There are lot of unspoken biases. Women, early on, tend to get stuck with "low risk" modules. This makes it harder for them to prove their value on a team. It is more of a worthless till proven worthy model for women, whereas men are assumed to be good till they prove otherwise.
There were very few women partners that were respected. Out of the 4 that I knew, only 1 was respected and liked. This perpetuated a culture that men were better leaders than women."

"Women are well treated, the work life balance is tough though and structurally the amount of travel make it tougher for working mothers. A lot of energy around increasing numbers of women at all levels. Generous support systems in place."

"Ask around and understand what the experience is like for the women you meet with. Ask about the portion of women and how it compares to the local area. Be sure that you agree with the reasons. Also -- if there are no women, it's probably not a good sign. Even as an intern, I felt like I was treated differently than my male colleagues despite the fact that even as full-time employees, only a small portion was expected to remain at BCG before child-bearing years."
