"I applied for a 'Junior Sales Rep' role which was described as:
'Are you a graduate / soon-to-be graduate? Are you looking for a role with great earning and career potentials?'
I applied as I thought I would be the perfect fit. I'd have graduated for a year at this point and had been working in sales for a startup for the past 6 months. The recruitment process went well, the founder seemed like a fair, nice guy so I was excited to get going.
We agreed that I would do a 2 week paid trial and do some sales training to get me up and running. This involved an hour and a half with the founder to learn about the business and 2 hours on sales strategies.
Fast forward to the end of my first week of my trial, my manager wants to speak to me and essentially dismisses me.
I was told:
'Well, unfortunately after a discussion with people from the team, we are not able to pay you for your work. We are a very small company and last week wasn't good. I compared ***** results (I know, he is more established) but he did what he was told. The main thing is that we need more experienced guy and we can't afford to pay you while you learn yourself.'
So basically I got fired:
- Despite advertising for a graduate role, in my opinion they didn't seem like they were willing to train me properly or give me any chance to improve.
- I wasn't performing as well as someone that had worked there full time for a year in my FIRST week.
- They said they wanted someone more experienced and had recruited wrongly.
- I'm now unemployed at 23 years old after just one week.
- When I told them about this review, they said they would write a counter review.
Why I wouldn't recommend working for them:
- They didn't even give me a chance and immediately dismissed me. What kind of culture is this?
- They asked for the money back that they had paid me.
- Made continuous false promises about the opportunity.
- There wasn't really any structure, I was told to 'send emails and call merchants within the m25'. The m25 is a huge area!
- The team is based within Czech Republic.
The founder is very chilled and it was often unclear whether he knew what was going on and what to focus on."
