For an engineer or a scientist - actively ask for the 'international' and more challenging work; this seems to almost always go to the men.

There are women in leadership in 'female' fields such as HR. But when it comes to interesting engineering/scientific work, the men seem to ask other men for input.
I was active internationally in my field, and although the company supported me financially, which was very good of them, no-one ever approached me about how I could integrate this in my career, or for that matter, it was hardly ever mentioned at work. I just have the feeling that if it was a man that held this international position, a lot more would have been made of it.
