"If you want to stay in Erie, PA, and can find the "right person" or a relative of someone who works there to get you in the door, you are .25 there. The nepotism and favoritism shown by the vast majority of management is the number one reason good talent leaves. If you do not get a manager who likes you, or will at the minimum be fair, your career will come to a grinding halt. You must be super vigilant as you take responsibility for moving your career forward.
HR works for the company, so they are only moderately helpful.
The IT department is overwhelmed and the systems are outdated.
However, there are VERY good people here. Once you find them, you will benefit greatly from their assistance.
For Erie, the benefits and salary are by far the only game in town."

"Be willing to search for a good manager or don't bother unless you are ok with "presenteeism".
Innovation and creativity are given a LOT of lip service here. As soon as you take advantage of an opportunity or achieve some success, the long knives will come out for you. I am astonished that this company has not been sued yet for hostile workplace and bullying conditions.
HR will not help you.
If you are involved with someone in the company or have a relative working there, you will be years ahead of anyone else.
If you plan on staying in Erie, PA, and your career goals are not too high, you may like it here. Otherwise, come prepared with an exit strategy, and DOCUMENT EVERYTHING the minute you feel something is "off".
DO NOT trust HR to help you. Seek outside support and an atty. necessary. They protect their own."

"As is with everything at ERIE, if you have a bad manager, you are doomed.
It will be nearly impossible to overcome this barrier, especially as a woman, Most bullies here are woman on woman, especially in IT division."
