Capital One is making significant progress in diversity, including a jump in the number of females executives recruited and promoted over the past couple of years. There is still work to do at the top levels of the organization, though. But overall as financial services companies go, it is working to be forward leaning and there is a vibrant, lively women's network that does a lot to support women throughout the company.

Great benefits for maternity leave. Recently went from 12 to 18 for moms and 2 to 8 for dads. It would be wonderful to have more working moms in senior leadership positions.

This is an excellent place to work - with lots of room for growth. It is an environment that rewards hard work and success. But if you also focus more on your life outside of work, it's a great place for that as well. It is a well-established company that understands employees are mature, have families and outside lives. Benefits are more on the maternal/paternal leave, generous 401k's side of the spectrum rather than free food, Friday beers, and ping pong tables.

Flexibility varies greatly by job type and manager preferences. For phones roles, there is very little flexibility. But for all other roles, it is mainly manager dependent, but I would say many managers aren't very strict about hours or butt-in-office time. I work from home 2-3 days a week.

I think a big step forward would be to see more women in leadership roles who are balancing family and career. There are increasing number of female leaders, but they tend to be childless or have a stay-at-home spouse - so they're essentially thriving in a male-established culture rather than changing it. Culture is changing though, so if women are willing to push for their needs while still delivering value, management is generally willing to meet them. I'm in middle management and personally have a high degree of flexibility - I can't imagine I could find this combination of flexibility and compensation elsewhere.

Flexibility/culture varies from department to department, manager to manager. You also have to be assertive and confident leveraging the flexibility, even if others don't. I have a high degree of flexibility, but I feel that I've "earned" it, having been at the company for 18 years and earning promotions while working flexibly (but not advertising it)

Thy are trying to promote diversity and improve policies to attract/retain women. I believe they do a better job t the junior levels.

Depends on the role and your line of business. Overall, I believe it is a flexible place to work but the need for long hours (or after hours work). Additionally it is predominantly male and not many working mothers in senior level roles.
