Make sure to negotiate your base salary and PTO before joining. Set your boundaries on the flexibility you need from the beginning.

Overall, Appian provides a great level of flexibility and work-life balance. Many employees adjust their work hours, and PTO is strongly encouraged. The reason I didn't give Appian a 5 is because there isn't a formal remote work policy, so flexibility can vary by department and manager. Many other companies in the DC area formally allow and encourage 2-3 days of telework per week.

Too much chaos and not enough benefits for employees, especially women like a good maternity leave , matching 401k, etc.

November 2015

I've worked at this company for approximately 4 years. Several women have taken maternity leave and returned during my time here. The office is great for maternity leave, but not so supporting upon returning. There has been progress in supporting new mothers, but the mentality is hard to change. I think some associates have a difficult time with balancing their new home life demands and the demands of a stressful and uncompromising job.

October 2015

Great, supportive environment for women, but the pay is not equal to the current living expenses in the area. For what you lose in pay you gain in flexibility. Several women are in executive roles and carry the brunt of legwork. Due to the type of industry (retail), women are able to thrive and advance, though the small size of the company limits options.
