"In small businesses the pay isn't great but it can enable you to work part time, blending what you need and what the business needs are. It was great for me to be able to work 4 hours a day 5 days a week so I could focus on building my own business. It was a 100% online job but we were required to meet in a conference room twice a week with no privacy for 4-8 hours. I decided to leave when we were required to work 7 days a week. With small business pay, few hours and working 30+ days a month, my work life balance decreased. At one point they offered to allow me to work at midnight throughout the night so I could work 6 days a week instead of 7, since the reports had to be processed on Sundays. Although its a great idea, especially for women who work 100% online , WFH providing extra hours....my sleep schedule was impacted. My supervisor at that time wasn't supportive during this transition. Changing the schedules of the only minority women on the team from 5 days a week to 7 was not intentional but it does call to question, what better solutions could they explore the next time a business need conflicts with morale? The training was very short and I didn't have all the tools to do my job but it was not worse than other jobs. Next time I would suggest having all of the equipment ready, firm contract, firm schedule and increased pay. I would have liked to stay but my supervisor and my new schedule made me reevaluate my goals. Parting was the right decision. My supervisor was sharp but new in the role. Her closeness with the owner of the company shifted the dynamics to a more hierarchical plane rather than the culture of a small business. "
