"While they have a modicum of flexible corporate policies, most are supervisor discretion. As a young single woman, my boss told me I needed to keep my evenings free and be flexible in order to accommodate my coworkers with families in case something urgent came up. How am I supposed to meet people and grow a family if I'm stuck at work all the time?
Culture is cutthroat, expect mentors, peers, and bosses to stab you in the back. Men on the team would start talking as soon as any woman opened her mouth in a meeting or even a social lunch, manager dinged me in performance reviews because she didn't like the pitch of my voice, coworker who suffered a workplace injury was told it was her infant's fault and she should just stop picking up her baby.
