"If you want a fulfilling, long term career here you’re going to have to make many sacrifices for the company. Frequent moves (career path & geographically), expat assignments or rotating, lack of work life balance, expectation of being in the office even during a global pandemic for “optics”, basically doing anything that is asked of you. Once you set boundaries, it will most likely be counted against you in the archaic ranking system (ultimately driven by if your boss likes you).
There are certain personality types that strive and enjoy ExxonMobil but it is a very niche group (and mostly white men). You have to really fight to demand respect from male coworkers and managers, but they will not admit to regularly talking over women or not valuing their opinions. Only positive of working at Exxon in my mind is the high salary. "

"Leaving Exxon was one of the best decisions of my life. Only in hindsight did I realize how incredibly toxic it is for women, especially women of color. My husband I worked there, started at the same time, worked similar roles, put in similar hours, received similar awards, but had an insane pay gap between the two of us. Despite my effectiveness, the only feedback I consistently received was that I "wasn't aggressive enough", which we all know is code for "we only recognize one type of leadership and its being loud and imposing- and male.""

"Paid parental Leave was just instituted about 2 years ago (after my daughter turned 2). They now give 8 weeks to both new moms and dads and new moms get 6 weeks additional recovery time but that 6 weeks is deducted from
A short-term disability bank. So they treat the 6 weeks as 6 weeks sick leave that comes out of your sick time."
