Women are not promoted to upper management positions VP is it. We have several women in the company who deserve SVP title but men will be promoted to that before a woman will. Also a man will be hired from outside the company to take an SVP role even though there is a woman who should be promoted to that position. AND she works harder!

May 2016

Your experience will vary greatly by role. In the training division, there were blind eyes to gender bias in leadership opportunities and training evaluations. But the two larger challenges are the poor upper-management project planning (resulting in unrealistic deadlines that required 70 and 80 hour weeks) and a lack of flexibility (requests from trainers to job-share or go part time were denied supposedly because the company would then have to make those options available to all employees). Go in with your eyes open to the possibility of burnout and negotiate your compensation at the outset (salary and vacation days - even if your recruiter says they don't negotiate), because the systems for raises are pretty inflexible later on.

April 2016

Parental leave could be better, though they did just implement two weeks paid for both men and women so at least that is some progress. Note that housestaff are treated very different benefit-wise than Northwestern staff. Very much depends on what program you are with and who you work with. In general, pediatrics are less family friendly and flexible, ironically.

August 2015

In the past, this was a good job to have with pay and benefits. It is a dangerous work place and if you get injured they often will tell the older employee their injury is due to being older. They have engineers look at the site and how the injury occurred, but the dispensary obviously don't have communications with the findings of the engineers. I had to work with a torn meniscus for several months while taking my claim to Workman.s Comp court. I could not get the MRI to find the problem until I won my Workman.s Comp claim. I won, but I would not wish anywoman to put herself at risk there.
