"Working in civil service, compensation is highly controlled within ranges set by the State Personnel Board, so your compensation is determined on your merits alone. I have never felt treated differently or unfairly due to gender by management, but I have felt talked down to or dismissed by some male coworkers, especially in my early days as an analyst (I suspect this is because I work with systems and IT teams quite heavily and have higher than average tech knowledge, but am not actually in an IT classification). "Flexibility depends largely on your unit, position/class, management, and reputation. I have a high amount of flexibility (full-time telework as of 3/2020, and can adjust shifts on an as-needed basis with little notice), but this is not necessarily the norm. "

"On the whole, my manager is quite good. He was a little micromanage-y in his early years (we inherited him as a brand new supervisor), but as he gained experience and trust in his new team, he mellowed out. I have been lucky in my FTB career to have had better-than-average management – I have seen some horror stories from other employees in other areas of the department."
