June 2018

Stick to your guns, do not be afraid to challenge the status quo or have an opinion. There are a lot of bad habits in terms of treatment and interaction towards women. Only by rejecting the behavior as acceptable can we bring awareness and seek a change.

This is dependent on your leader. Each leader runs their team as they see fit. They make and enforce their own rules with little oversight from HR.

Redefine their culture by taking a hard look at leadership in each department. The newest, most innovative leaders are radically different from many who have been around for years. If leadership challenges the status quo outright, there is a chance for success for all employees, especially women.

Depends on group, but the company itself has lousy time off policies and in one training video, presents stalking as a natural consequence of not following security protocols.

The work is incredibly interesting and challenging, and there are definitely opportunities for advancement for women. However, the internal politics and stress from an intense deadline and pressure-filled environment ahead of nonstop global launches and summits will lead to burnout if you're not careful.

PDS is a good short-term gig to get the experience of working in a high growth environment. However, know that they don't value diversity at the top and all their policies are driven by the senior executives.

November 2015

I've been at WMU for eight years. I have experienced misogyny from male administrators, sexual harassment from both men and woman, and daily abuse from supervisors. Our HR is a joke and no one is held accountable unless they are so low on the totem that they would make a fuss when let go. Staff members are treated like servants, while faculty are treated like royalty. Every office is beyond short-staffed. My boss regularly tries to get me to divulge details of my family planning and has even referred to people like me as "breeders." WMU offers generous vacation, if your supervisor allows you to use your days. Sick leave is generous too, but staff members should expect supervisors who go out of their way to try to make you come in when you're sick or caring for a sick child. There is no formal allowance for a flexible schedule or working from home. Doing so is determined by individual department supervisors. Few women return from maternity leave.

Women do get promoted but it is on a rigid timeline. Women are required to use all of their PTO before getting any paid FMLA leave. As far as I know, no additional paid leave or benefits are offered.
