There is good work/life balance. Some of the sexism is implicit, and occasionally but less often explicit. Maternity leave is OK, not amazing, not awful. They do cover fertility treatments.

It depends on the job. While policies encourage more flexibility like work from home, it is frowned upon the higher up you go in the orginization. The CEO likes to face time. Physically being in the office is an unofficial rule for those that want to advance in the company....specifically at headquarters....otherwise your career will suffer the consequences.

Provide more opportunities for women to advance. BCBSMA pats itself on the back for having a few women in senior leader roles. What about the rest of the company? What about Vice President, Director, and Manager roles?

There aren't many opportunities to advance in this company. You will find yourself stuck and unhappy. Mostly unfulfilled.

I would tell a woman of color that the environment is not very tolerant of those who look different and those who are women that have a strong voice of confidence in themselves.

January 2017

Overall, I have found the Army to be merit-based in its treatment of women -- and overall, have done fairly well. However, certain leaders, both GO and SES, do see women differently and may, for example, see less career potential for a pregnant civilian woman or new civilian mother. Stand up for yourself and make it clear to your leadership that you want to have a career, not just a job. NOTE: The Army stands out a very positive way in its Childcare Benefits. The Army subsidy available in some regions via NACCRA pays up to $900/month for childcare if you can't get your child into a DoD facility. Navy and AF are about 50% of that.

I took maternity leave using only existing accumulated Annual and Sick leave. There is no paid parental leave for government employees, so you are only officially allowed to use what you have already accumulated and/or FMLA.

Sales reps do not get paid commission while on maternity lease. This policy is quite unfair, considering that sales reps can work on projects for years before the sale comes through.
