Wonderful place to work if you are in the right vertical. Being a global company processes can be arduous but that comes with the size of the organisation. Not such a great place if you work in the wrong vertical.

Some women excel in this environment, and others don't. It really does depend on your position and your manager / team. There are very very few women in leadership positions, but that seems to be changing. The culture is slowly shifting, and in the coming years we will probably see more women in higher position.

Don't work at Emerson if you are an ambitious female. Sex discrimination both overt and covert are rampant. You might be ok up to manager level. Their are tons of female managers. They advertise those jobs internally. Director and above jobs aren't usually advertised so their is no application process and the good old boys club takes over. At a presentation on mentoring, women were advised that men mentoring women were seen as affairs but since there are almost no women at higher levels it becomes impossible to have mentors let alone sponsors. They really don't even give lip service to diversity beyond having a non enforced non discrimination policy in place. Every reorganization or newly created director or VP role go to men. It's clear that from the top on down that women are not considered to even have leadership potential or decision making ability.

I worked there for 3 years. Management is male-dominated, and your overall experience will determine greatly depending on what team you are currently working on. Women who have children to care for aren't given much freedom to do so. Overall, it varies.
