It's a flexible, great work life balance. Very few women on the team, but everyone is pretty supportive and nice.

Beware of the male favortism, and bro culture. Some racial, and sexual orientation slurs happen under the guise of "jokes". Sometimes it's funny, and sometimes it crosses the line. Otherwise though, the hours are great for the people in my position, and the days can be flexed. Very relaxed and no micro-managing goes on, which is nice.

Hold any evaluations (I haven't had one in over 5 years), and let go of the "bro" culture. Engage in more friendly conversation instead of ignoring.

Be prepared for diversity and embracing change. There is a little bit of politics and diplomacy required between Academia and the professional staff.

Make sure you come in with clear objectives - if things get fuzzy people have a hard time determining what the final objective was.

October 2015

I worked here for three years and the attitude of the senior leadership is that it's best to squeeze and burn through young, idealistic staff regardless of gender, but of course that falls especially hard on women with young children. In that vein, during my time there different employees received different maternity leave benefits depending on how much they negotiated with HR, and were told not to discuss their benefits with others. I'm not sure if it's been standardized since. And although management is dominated by women, that does not translate into mentorship. In fact, younger women often seem to be viewed as competition and kept from opportunities that would help them grow and develop. Who your direct boss is makes a big difference in ability to grow and quality of life, but those things aren't institutional priorities for senior leadership.
