For the NYC office, it would be nice if you speak Japanese so you can connect with the Japan corporate office people. Also, if you don't work much with the Japanese team, be sure you are liked by the US CFO. He determines your raise!

The City seems to be fairly flexible with respect to flexible hours for taking care of children; however, the maternity leave could use a boost. Maternity leave requires you to use your vacation time and sick time, which usually only accounts for 5 weeks paid.

Maybe. Maternity leave is not the best. The City has just recently started hiring women in leadership positions so it is still relatively new, but it is definitely improving.

The company is actually about 80% women employees, and they have very good benefits, a generous maternity leave policy and are very family friendly and flexible.

March 2016

Maternity leave "policy" was entirely at the chairman's discretion and was generally equivalent to a 1/12th reduction in required hours for the year. Overall, women faculty are not given the same opportunities to advance as their male peers.

I worked here for 2 years and there were lots of women involved, but not in decision-making roles. A lot depends on the ED or other decision makers, and you will be asked to wear many, many hats.

December 2015

I've worked here for over 1 year. They claim that there are many women in leadership, but most are in middle-management and I've heard a lot of talk about them behind their back from their direct reports, other women leaders, other men leaders, etc. It's quite discouraging. You have to be a little crass and be "one of the boys" to fit in, especially in some departments. It's very obvious that you are treated differently. It takes a while to earn the respect of the operators and of other engineers when you are a new graduate and a young women here. Some still do not ask me for technical advice even though I own the process and have made good engineering recommendations, etc. They ask the other male engineers in the department, who then defer to me.
