It is possible to balance work and family life - you have to be confident enough to just say, this is what I intend to do and how I will make it work for everyone. Not everyone feels comfortable doing that.

This is a great place to work as a woman. The company is run by 2 women, the upper management skews female and considering it's TV, there is an extremely fair work/life balance here. The trade off is compensation, they do not pay competitive rates for the TV industry.

They treat their managers as slaves, they are always moving around around our shifts without asking and if they do ask you have no option but to do as they ask or your punished for it. You work any where from 12 to 16 hour days some times for weeks on end with en with no days off. If your not part of the click and bow down to you store and shift managers they go out of their way to fire you.

The culture is very male-driven and is lenient towards frat-house humor that is not appropriate for a workplace setting.

Vacation/sick hours must be used for maternity leave. For my first child, I had enough hours to be paid for my 12 week leave. I only had enough hours for about 6 weeks for my second child (4 years later).

May 2015

Be prepared for how slowly a large organization like The Gap runs. My professional history has been with relatively small organizations, so of course, things move along a little faster. Don't focus on the politics, just ensure your VP's have the support they need. My advice is to be openly communicative with everyone, but not overly communicative.
