"It depends upon your career goals and where you want to be within the organization. Unfortunately, some minorities (African American) and others are not fairly treated. No, I'm not an African American woman but I feel I should say something about it. Kaiser has clicks and it's sad but true. I have witnessed a man be promoted in the same department 3 times in one year. However, a woman with an education and experience and certification. Not one time. Make your own call on this one sorry. "In some areas of the organization there seems to be a problem with diversity, and yes the same diversity that they mention in their campaign ads and what you may see in brochures. Unfortunately, the organization has become an organization of who you know, no longer what you know. You have a diverse population of employees who are non-union and have graduate degrees and more. However, you will also note that they are the ones on the severance packages annually. For a long time, Kaiser has stood for fairness and equal treatment and care for all. I guess that's only if you are a patient and no an employee. The secret to them always listed on the top places to work top #50. During the time where companies are nominated, they will have the administrative staff stand in the lobby and hand out the questionnaires including volunteering to help people complete them. Providing them with the prepaid envelope and all. Many more things that could be said, but I think I have written enough."

"Be on guard. The companies policies are great and the company aims high, but something gets lost in the translation of operations across the two entities and unfortunately, people can get caught in the cross hairs. This was the most unhealthy work culture I have ever worked in and will recover from and yet there are great people working there, but the risk is great, depending on your role. Clinical staff tend to have more protection."

One thing Kaiser Permanente can improve?
"environment varies at different service areas and buildings based on executive leadership. Overall, the actions do not match the words and high aims of this organization, especially if you are in a non clinical position. Lack of aligned goals, clarity, reasonable expectations, clear processes, and unhealthy communication is frequently role modeled at the top and that impacts, unfortunately, the rest of the team who work beneath them. Unfortunately, gossip is rampant with senior leaders taking part in it, people, not processes are often times blamed, often times, after the fact, in unhealthy ways. Also, there is quite a bit of fear in this environment. The intensity of the fear based cultures vary depending on area, function, etc. This is a huge organization. The dichotomy is that this organization wants to do the right thing, and their benefits package is great. It comes at a high emotional and potential career cost if you find yourself in one of the unhealthier environments. Best advice would be to proceed entering the organization with caution, recognize, that some functions and areas can be more passive aggressive in nature than others. When/if interviewing, and really be on the lookout of a healthy culture, camaraderie, CLEAR GOALS, and EXPECTATIONS, and trust with the team and department you may work for. Trust your gut, If that is missing in your function, or area, proceed with extreme caution, or better yet, don't proceed at all. There are plenty of organizations out there and opportunities with a healthier culture, go seek those."

"The “good old boys club” exists everywhere- ignore them! The good news is there are enough empowering women in leadership to mentor and support you. Seek them out and don’t fall into the trap of petty, competitive, snarky behavior. Supporting other women shows your strength and security as a true leader. "

"As a whole KP Health Plan is flexible, but certain areas of the organization still force employees to drive to the office regardless of level of role and responsibility. This philosophy also eliminates employees from around the US to be considered for new opportunities in regions where they do not live if the employee does not want to relocate."

"Great to work for been here 16 yrs and you really need to ask yourself if this position is for you. If you can follow direction, pick things up quickly, don't take things personally, it's a breeze. Getting hired is a bit difficult but once your in the door it's really a good place to work: great benefits, flexible schedules if needed, and a company with a high rating within the community and surrounding areas. I definitely would recommend this company to other women as well as men!!!"

"decent pay and benefits but it is a company that is so corporate that is is often out of touch and likes to constantly have their employees feel under their thumb. management is not supportive and it is not a "team" type of environment. Do not expect to ever be appreciated no matter how hard you work or if you go above and beyond. They tend to pick their employees apart with tweezers, always looking for the one thing you could "do a little better" than giving you praise for the thousand tasks you do amazing. It is a management vs. employee style of operating and this direction comes from the upper management. very counter productive."

"Kaiser Permanente is a great place to work in regards to work/life balance and accommodation for working mothers. I don't think opportunities are the same for men and women. It is a very traditional organization and men are treated more favorably than women."

"I've seen a number of women have multiple children across two departments, all of whom were able to negotiate approximately 5 months off (I assume some of it was paid time, and some it was unpaid time). All but one returned to f/t jobs, with flexibility for working at home etc."
