The company is geninely interested in promoting women in tech and sponsors many women-led events. I feel listened to.

Be very clear about your time boundaries from the getgo. They take advantage of temp workers, you do the same work as a fulltime employee but received no benefits.

If you are not looking to get ahead its a great place to work - flexible, understanding, etc. If you have career plans and a goal path, they will not help you. If you just want a solid job, definitly apply here.

I think it can sometimes be limiting to view women has the only support at a company - many times it's also great men who can help promote and encourage women in their next role. Although the founders are both men they are focused on mentoring and promoting any individual, regardless of sex.

Civis is a great organization - it focuses on maintaining a really open, inclusive, intelligent environment. Everyone at Civis pretty mission-driven, given the company's roots. Civis has only been around since 2013 and is working on creating fair policies around things like parental leave. The group really is a great place to learn and grow. The people are wonderful and really supportive. We have some work to do on increasing the number of women in the company but I know that recruiting diversity is a priority.

November 2015

I was there for a decade and found the company to be very flexible to working moms, allowing paid maternity leave, flexible working arrangements, work from home becoming standard, etc.. My bigger issue would be the culture/style feels much more male-oriented (i.e. aggressiveness, competitiveness, boastfulness especially around performance reviews/getting visibility, etc.) vs. female-driven, so often females who did not embody those stereotypically "male" traits would find it difficult to succeed.

August 2015

I have been with the company 6 years and men advance faster than women. The Senior Leadership Team is white male dominated (there are a few women, but they are tokens). Subtle sexism permeates the company. Women who are outspoken are "adversarial" men who are outspoken are "great contributers to the discussion" women get "mommy tracked" men get fast tracked. It has generous leave policies, progressive iniatives (great, supportive culture if you are LGBTQ), flex work arrangements and work from home arrangements available depending on the department. I think what area of the company you are in determines how good your experience is. The USIG leadership and organization are not great. Retirement services (which is headed by the only female Senior Leader) is reportedly a whole other world (in a good way).
