September 2018

Woman here are judged on beauty. If you look good in photos, you'll be favored. You'll be given more opportunities and you'll also get more support and encouragement to grow your skills. Men have more room to be less attractive or overweight, but not the women.

There is no flexibility given to the employees who have kids. Despite being a tech company, no one was allowed to work remotely. If you needed to be home, you had to use PTO. I don't recall ever seeing anyone take time to go to the doctor or dentist... Not even to have their teeth cleaned. People were given 30 minutes for lunch and often ate at their desk. There was a full break room with a ping-pong and a foosball table. Yet, no one in my department had the opportunity to use it unless it was after work.

July 2018

The CEO is rumored to say "Employees are a dime a dozen" and the company culture (and turnover rate) reflects this. The company pays well below market for any job. The company does tend to hire women and even promote them, but that is because they find that most men expect to be paid more than this company willing to pay. Annual reviews do not happen unless the employee insists, At the annual reviews, managers often cherry-pick "examples" of poor performance to justify either a tiny or zero raise.

The departments that report to the CTO/COO (purchasing, IT, content writing, and others have more flexibility because he tries to provide reasonable accommodation for life circumstances within the boundaries of company policy. The rest of the company does not seem to be flexible. If a person calls in sick, for instance, they are grilled about the nature of the illness and their supervisor/manager will often push them to come in anyway. This approach comes direct from the CEO, a woman, who treats her own subordinates this way.

If you are a slave to the office and don't want much of an outside life, this is a great job. They will keep giving you more and more work and demand results and impose timelines without taking your current workload into consideration.

Don't. It's an excellent firm at the top of its field, but there is no genuine opportunity for advancement to equity partner, even though one of the existing equity partners is female.
