Be careful. Unless you are an Academic you will be stuck in the administrative ghetto; never promoted/hit the glass ceiling. Disconnect with upper management (who are all academics, not managers). Management of staff is downloaded to senior admin office person of which will not have any experience or skill in managing people. General trend is that departments are managed in a dictatorship environment. Bullying and disrespectful workplaces are commonplace.

Administrative and support staff are treated as 'resources'; no different than computer monitors and desks. Not respected therefore no consideration given to flex time work life balance. Huge pushback if you want to consider alternate work schedules or flexing time. Not supported but rather strongly discouraged.

Women are not treated fairly, given the same opportunities as men, promoted as readily as men, or paid as well as men. Sexual discrimination and sexual harassment is commonplace.

A surprising number of women are in staff leadership roles, and have been for a long time. They're actively working to increase diversification in the faculty.

The organization is typically male dominated when it comes to leadership positions. However for those women that have demonstrated success, promotion opportunities are available. Similar to other companies, women need to work harder to differetiate themselves to be considered an option.

January 2016

The company is evolving when it comes to gender consciousness and has rolled out a number of initiatives over the past few years targeted to increase employee engagement. Some of these efforts are an All4 Diversity Council, Lean In Circle Discussion Groups, and targeted campaigns to increase idea sharing. Female leadership has increased within the Director level and above; with strong female leadership across the global community. Overall Benefits could use improvement when compared with benefit menus of best in class organizations.

October 2015

Women are holding a number of high level leadership positions. Leave policies are negotiations with your manager since there is not a published paid time off or sick leave. One manager may tell you that you have to take your doctor appointments over lunch OR use vacation for your kids sick days while another may not. General population of employees is over 50 so focus of benefits and policies is for employees at a later stage in their career. Very little flexibility and you should be at the office from 8 to 5 to show you are committed to your career. Leaving the office for personal business/child events usually requires vacation consumption, even if it is for an hour. There is pressure to use a half day of vacation to leave. Maternity leave is generally 6 to 8 weeks for most women. When asking a pregnant women why she wouldn't take the legal 12 weeks, the response was "that isn't done around here." There is no set policy for paternity leave. Most men took vacation to spend even a day with their new babies. However, this is negotiable with your manager and your manager may approve something while another manager may not.
