Upper management is now all women (compared to 50% when I worked there). Fantastic role models and flexibility was provided as most women have children and are understanding of emergencies that come up and work/life balance. Great culture of inclusion. I can't comment on parental leave as I was in a temporary position.

Better opportunities for locally engaged staff. Unfortunately, this is a pervasive problem that is mainly an issue of policy change at headquarters in Ottawa.

There are plenty of opportunities to grow your career at work, but this may come at the cost of staying longer at work. Most female professionals here do not have young children.

Some VAs have very few women in leadership positions. Men are more easily promoted.

USAID is still an old boy's club. It can be a great place to work for a lot of reasons, but you need to go into it aware - be prepared for sexism.

Maybe. If you want to work here for the mission and values, the overseas lifestyle, etc. then it can be a good place to work. But women at USAID face challenges on a daily basis. From being the only woman at a table full of old men, to having men talk over you, interrupt, and claim your ideas as their own, to discrimination in the assignments process, to getting assigned to a certain house in the housing pool because of your "lifestyle as a single woman", it really never ends. . .

Work/life balance at FRB Chicago is great, and they are making big strides with their parental leave policy. The one drawback is the pay. It's getting more competitive, but you can make more in the private sector.
