"This is a traditional place. Women need to smile and be friendly. They need to be more flexible and available than men because it is assumed that women are not able to meet job requirements because of family responsibilities. So one "no, I'm busy" could paint you as on the mommy-track."

"The unit director has a lot of power to make life easier or harder for individuals. Some groups have more women in the office; others have more men. Improvements for women are not generally publicly discussed by the leadership."
