June 2018

It's a positive space in many ways, but in many departments (and particularly mine within the business school) there are no women in leadership positions, women are not included in decision making even when they should be, and some negative "traditional values" bleed into the workplace in an unprofessional way.

Don't. Management are cold. Staff questions often go unanawered. Suggestions frequently get no feedback. Equipment and software are sometimes out-of-date. Staff rarely has any input before changes are made, often without the consequences being thought through. More work is expected out of fewer and fewer workers.

Be very upfront about what you can and can't deliver. The Executive Director and Advisory Board can be abusive. They do not value my time.

Even though there is an official work from home policy it isn't enforced and you can pretty much set your own hours. Plus summer hours from May through September.

Not very family friendly. Unflexible hours and management is predominantly males. Some women have been promoted but the cuttthroat atmosphere doesn't lend itself to mentoring or support.

FRBNY could be more progressive to promote women's well-being in the work place. One of the biggest problem is the lack of enforcement and clarity on company policy. For example, each women seem to cut their own deal on maternity leave and it does not seem fair. More transparency would help to project fairness.

The treatment of staff vs attorneys are quite different. Attorney women get more time off for maternity, vacation etc. In terms of women, this is an equal opportunity workplace. Great place for attorneys of either gender.
