"Relatively flexible, but can be highly manager dependent. Shire would benefit greatly from having more explicit guidelines around work from home policies."

"Know your value and your worth. The industry is becoming dependant on alliances - I'm biased - women do a better job recruiting them quickly and managing them."

"I was senior management, and the deck was stacked with men who wanted women to do the details while the men were in charge. A great company, I loved my job and team mates. But I wouldn't recommend it to women who aren't politically and business savvy or voice better ideas and execute flawless tactics to accomplish the plan's goal."

"They do pay for 12 wks of maternity leave no matter your time of service but working out a way to obtain more than 12 weeks or any sort of flexible schedule, work from home options or compressed work week type of thing is not really an option."

"For the pharma space they are less flexile than others in terms of adjusted schedules and working from home. They announced about a year ago that there would be a policy about this but it didn't happen before I was let go."

"In R&D, most of the leadership is male, but individual departments do have a better balance of men and women (my department head is male but his direct reports are half and half). Family friendliness and flexibility does depend in part on one's individual manager; my boss does not have kids but has been very understanding if I need to deal with kid stuff - as long as I get my work done, he doesn't keep close tabs on me."

"Maternity is generous, but finding time to pump throughout the day, and flexibility as far as working from home/telecommuting/leaving early isn't really there. Not a very family friendly work environment unless you're a manager or above, or you've been working there for years and years."
