"Beware of promises of promotions from management. My supervisor repeatedly used my family commitments to justify lack of promotional opportunities. This was why I left."

"While Textron will talk about diversity in the workplace, almost 2/3 of the workplace are males, and most leadership roles (both at the top and at the various business units) are held by men. This leads to an unconcious impact on the approach to women in the workplace. And while it's perception, one rarely sees child-bearing women in the office; not saying it doesn't happen, but it's just not that common. "

"While Textron is trying to position itself to be a diverse employer of choice, many "old school" ways of thinking still remain strong, and some of the business units (sites) are still very "boys-club". Textron still operates with the 8-5 mindset and doesn't really allow any work-from-home scenarios or one-off approvals for ammended schedules. Some business units are beginning to offer 9/80 scheduling (7-5 M-Th, 7-3:30 F #1, off second F), but that still does not assist women with children. As yes, they do have the opportunity to save a day in daycare fees, but now must find a daycare which opens earlier so that both parents can share drop-off responsibilities. "

"If you have a great team and manager, it can be a great place to work. Upward mobility can be limited if you are unwilling to relocate (in my case, my husband's job made this difficult). They do often relocate working couples together, offering them both jobs so they are improving in this area."

"Flexibility varies by function - little flexibility offered within finance teams (where I worked) with long hours required by most. Other departments were much more flexible, seemed very dependent on your individual manager. "
