May 2018

The outdoor industry is male dominated, but that also means there's opportunity. If you have the tenacity to be an agent for change, even in the face of long-standing trends to the contrary, you may love digging in at Backcountry. The policies are very friendly to women (including a mother's room for nursing, pumping, etc.,), but the possibility of advancement and recognition as a high performer is lacking.

Despite low to market pay and limited opportunity for advancement, the flexibility is why I stay. We have FTO rather than PTO, and there is an expectation of work/life balance that is beneficial.

Get the experience and then be open to moving on. Don't expect Exosite to be empathetic to reality, but do expect artificial harmony and a focus on a person's intent vs. their impact.

We do have very flexible policies, however there are some leaders that want your butt in the seat and keep track of when you are there or not. It's not a large company, but different groups have different expectations.

Don't. Sexual harrassment and misogyny are rampant. Women are not respected as more than adornments.

The company is definitely moving in the right direction, but I wonder about the pay equity. Promotion equity is really at the manager discretion.

October 2015

I've worked here for 3 years and they are have many women in senior leadership roles. I have not taken maternity leave here but to have employees who have. They get up to 12 weeks and up to 6 weeks of short term disability (60% of salary) but do have to pay share of benefits while out. The benefits are comprehensive. There is a lot of opportunity for advancement. They are very supportive of family and flexible about schedules to accommodate as much as possible.
