the management team does not support the rank and file employees. There is a culture of elites that are not inclusive of anyone belowdecks

Work is good. Benefits and PTO are good. Flex time is solely based on manager approval and is job specific even though it is part of HR policy

Flexibility comes at a price. Less promotions for women and flexibility is conditional. We have to be onsite for at least 3 days.

  • Took Maternity Leave Here? (Weeks)

    6 paid / 6 unpaid

The trick here at UPMC is that there is no maternity leave bucket. The first 6 weeks are taken as short term disability and are paid at 60%. After that any and all PTO earned HAS to be taken and so this will be paid. After all PTO is used up then we can take unpaid leave based on manager discretion. The sad part about all of this is that employer mandated FMLA runs parallel to all this so job protection only exists for 12 weeks.

There are no formal telecommuting policies, but I'm able to get things done re: home. If policies were in place, it would just make me less self conscious about it.

August 2016

That it's rather even more outdated when it comes to equal or compensation, based on gender, than other companies - depending on which department but it's really still overall not equal.

May 2016

The management treat most women poorly and don't believe we have any value in the workplace. There is no leeway for family obligations during work hours. You are at work or you lose points on your review and don't get a raise. It's pretty much that simple

November 2015

Most of the staff is comprised of women, but it's run by an old boys club in the high level positions. There is less of a culture of sexism than there is of ageism. People refuse to retire from the Federal government, so you have an entire generation of staff who barely know how to attach a document to an email, much less want to evolve and adapt to new creative ways of doing things. If you're under the age of 35, you are treated like a child. Older women are clearly threatened by younger female employees and not many are supportive in terms of wanting to advance and promote staff. However, I will say that I have made wonderful friendships with many colleagues here. When I went on maternity leave, my colleagues donated over 80 hours of paid leave to me which tremendously helped my family financially.

November 2015

The only reason I wouldn't recommend this company is because of their business strategy that will have U.S. offices and operations ultimately close in short term. Management in UK young, energetic and open to innovative ways of doing things. Management in the U.S. much more a boys club. Men compensated at higher salaries for similar roles.
