This institution values face-time and follows a strict hourly clock. It's challenging to have flexibility, but you are covered if you need to take care of a sick family member (sick leave is separate from PTO). Everything is very procedural and formal and must be approved.

Very positive environment! Your opinions and suggestions are welcome! Even at my level I have had lengthy conversations with the President of the company.

This is a great place to obtain entry level experience. However, once you move into management, be very careful.

Very little. At one time it did, but this has been lost.

  • One Thing Employer Could Improve

Improve the overall culture of the company. There is a culture of stepping on others in order to get what you need rather that an overall team mentality among all departments. This system will never succeed if departments continually are pitted against each other - and unfortunately it is encouraged from the top down.

The corporate culture is a boys' club at the top levels. Being an Australian company, they're not shy about sexism.

Yearly vacation is generous, since the company is Australian. I found it hard to take my full allotment of time off though, since it was viewed negatively by my direct bosses. It really depends on your direct boss and department head.

August 2016

This is 100% a male dominated environment- just notice how there are no women in SVP roles or higher. Most meetings don't even include women unless they are there to take notes. Women don't get promoted easily, however, it's not uncommon to see a man get promoted every week. They falsely support women's concerns and questions because ultimately, nothing is done to actually improve the situation. Probably best to work anywhere but here if you are a woman.

The benefits are great, but be sure you can afford to take unpaid maternity leave if you plan to have kids. Current policy is 5 days (and then a person could use short term disability and FMLA, but is required to use up All PTO first.)
