Did you find yourself being discriminated after you went back to work post your maternity leave?
As a single mom (divorced), I experienced this. I had an upper level role then (through now) and some felt I should be at a call center or Walmart since I didn't have a man
Note: in the early days, sometimes I'd had to leave but ALWAYS made up the work (accounting) and women felt - TOLD ME - no man = no career
This has never been my experience after 3 kids - fortunately! And I had a personal win with my last child as I was able to advocate for a designated private room for pumping after being walked in on while using a storage closet once. Thankfully I was turned away from the door, but quite an awkward situation nonetheless! I hope you're not facing a discriminatory situation...
I had a baby last year and before going on my paid maternity leave for 6 months I was promoted to Staff and was told once I come back I would take on the Senior lead position based on how much experience I have.
I took that option out of the 2 (second one being moving to a new technology which would require a lot of ground RnD work) as it made sense with a new baby. Fast forward 6 months when I came back they passed on that opportunity to someone else. I initially tried to rationalize that "hey things change and may be that was the best thing they could do" but the issue I kept having was no one wanted to talk about what went on to make that change. I could not help thinking that I got discriminated because I became a new mother. On top of that, I was told that motherhood comes with resposibilities and its own challenges and maybe I should focus on figuring out how to juggle my work and life. I kept thinking for exactly 3 days on what should be my next move, and the following Monday I sent out emails to see if someone else in my org. is willing to take me on for something that suits my leadership skills and experience. I got 7 job offers within 2 hours, and I successfully made my move to a different group. Fast forward 4 months, I am now being moved to being a co-chair of a taskforce to run for the technology deliverable that we need to meet by Nov. I consider this my major win, because this was something I was promised in my last group and was passed on for.
