What do one do if your targeted during covid due to childcare issues?
I've been reprimanded, docked, written up during the pandemic. First time ever receiving discipline. For things such as not be available every day in the office due to schools being closed, incompetent not so but if I'm unavailable that's not fact if I have to care for my child. Shouldn't employer's have worked with emergency services to plan for office employees to work from home? Some are but not me. This is discrimination. I am writing a grievance letter about all the false rhetoric. Your thoughts.....
This is an incredibly difficult time for both employees and employers, and I think it's going to be key for both sides of the equation to come together to find the best solution. Communication is key here. Have you been communicating with management when you are unable to make it in due to child care issues? If you can sit down with your manager to discuss your own personal situation and request support from management so that you can excel in your job, I would encourage you to do so. Employee productivity and success really is in an employer's best interest and they should be open to listening to you. I would suggest preparing some talking points in advance so that you can go into your meeting with a clear agenda.
Thanks for your response, I appreciate it.
Absolutely, communication has been always a factor. It just happens to be a new manager who is passive aggressive and does not work in my line of work. I often communicate to my assigned supervisor who doesn't have a problem with adjusting my schedule. It's the new manager who has been cornering coworkers and writing people up for random foolish things. Like for ex. if a vendor is on vacation or took a few days off we have to wait to solidify the contract. Someone was reprimanded but won their hearing because if the vendor outside of our company is not available one must wait. Beyond our control if no one has assigned the work if challenges should arise for one of the vendor companies we do business with. It's not mandatory to work in the office for some do work from home with the same position.
It’s not discrimination if you are not performing your tasks. Have you offered to work with your manager to see if your hours can be adjusted? The reality is for some jobs they can’t be done remotely or off hours. If that is the case, you may qualify for unemployment under the CARES act. Employers have done a lot and many employees are doing a lot, sometimes it’s just not enough.
Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it.
Big difference when you are doing all your work plus the new mgr and accused of not doing the work. This is a new mgr. and I report to an assigned supervisor who never had an issue with me and loves my work ethic. Now, this mgr wants everything to go through her for last approval on everything even for things that she is not familiar with in the unit. One must be certified which I am and the others I worked with. This person doesn't work in my area at all.
