Hey everyone! I did a talk on salary negotiation last weekend and I want to share some of the Q&A that came up there! I will post more over the next week, so stay tuned! Q: "How do I negotiate salary when I am trying to enter a new career path within the same industry?" A: Most of the same rules apply as if you were applying for any other role. Roles are changing so quickly, and much of your value comes from skills and experiences that transfer such as business knowledge, technical, leadership and communication skills. If you are getting an interview it means the company deems you to be among the best candidates, therefore you do not have to ask for less than market value for the role. While asking others who hold the title you want what the salary range is usually helpful. Keep in mind that sometimes people in a field can some who have a lot of experience in a role will be threatened by those wanting to pivot into it. No one person's opinion determines your value.
