    Position summary

    nd helping to support ongoing process improvement initiatives for the Wilson, NC site. They will perform assignments requiring the use and application of beginning to moderate and complex mechanical engineering principles and techniques. They must be capable of performing mechanical design and analysis to meet system requirements. The engineer who fills this position must have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. This position will heavily utilize development and debug skills for the development of mechanical interfaces and components used on multi-rack automated test stations. This position will also have the responsibility to develop and align our mechanical engineering design and documentation processes to better align with our other Avionics sites.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Developing designs, documentation modification, production support

    • Contribute to the success of a cross-functional team to develop solutions to production and field testing problems. This could include initial design, prototyping, and environment testing solutions.

    • Develop and review product designs and analyze development and design requirements

    • Develop mechanical engineering processes and best practices to align with our other Avionics test sites

    • Design of test fixtures, cables, interconnects and associated documentation

    • Perform tolerance analysis

    • Prepare and present project / technical information to peers, internal management and customers

    • Plan and manage tasks effectively

    Qualifications/Experience Needed:

    • Candidate must be detail oriented and be able to excel in a team environment where the individual will interact with various engineering teams comprised of other mechanical engineers, mechanical drafters, electrical engineers, software engineers and system engineers.

    • Excellent working knowledge with Solidworks, NX Designer, AutoCAD, or similar design tools, and 3D printing

    • Specific tasks include enclosure structural design, thermal, vibration, other environmental considerations, design verification, prototype build and production transition to the factory.

    • A successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of more complex modules and complete products.

    • Experience with mechanical design

    • Ability to translate requirements into physical design

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

    • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Familiar with Collins or Avionics products

    • Development experience

    • Mechanical test equipment design experience in manufacturing environment

    The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
