Glacially slow employee

Hearing that companies are holding off on hiring until 2023 is freaking me out...While I understand, I can't afford to wait until next year.

Why do we counsel each other hide our ages when we start a job search as a person over 50? Aren't we the HR professionals who should know the value of a highly experienced candidate? Are we are normalizing ageism just at a time in our culture when companies are learning to embrace all other dimensions of diversity?

I've almost exhausted my unemployment benefits—I’m at 20 weeks, and 26 is the max—and I live in California. It's not that I haven't been trying to find work, but I'm struggling to secure a job. I suspect that ageism might be a factor. Has anyone in this state had success in getting an unemployment extension? Thank you in advance; I'm really stressing out right now.

I'm currently in the process of job hunting, but it's proving to be quite challenging. I reside in California where the unemployment rate is notably high. It's perplexing to me that despite the seemingly good economy as depicted in reports and conversations, I'm still unable to secure employment. Initially, I was receiving numerous interview opportunities during my first few months of searching, but now it seems as though there's been a significant drop-off.
