"The women's leadership program is outstanding but it is a bright spot in a very dark place. The culture is toxic and leadership is a good old boy's club that is concerned with protecting their turf at all costs. Men are promoted based on relationships and potential; women are paid less for doing the same role and have to prove it again and again. "

"Policies are in place but are highly manager dependent. Still a lot of "butt in seat" mentality and expectations of 24/7 availability. Remote work, at least on an as needed/ discretionary basis is the norm at most companies now but it is not necessarily built in at Caterpillar. "

"Flexibility is promoted in all of our large employee meetings, but your actual flexibility comes down to who your direct Supervisor is. Even though we promote this balance, some Supervisors do not provide the flexibility, and still micro-manage all employees. It is also something that is taken away as a "punishment". More often than not, it will be a situation where one of your team members does not show the responsibility it takes to work independently/remote, and due to that, the Supervisor takes away everyone's flexibility, not just the employee who has had poor performance, "

"I believe the MINIMUM amount of week that should be offered (paid) is 12 weeks. I had to use my vacation time to accommodate a 12 week leave. Your emotions, thinking, routine, sleep schedule, etc are not at the optimum level for professional performance, but as soon as you re-enter your workplace, you are expected to perform at your top level, with no excuses. Your reviews and such are not made to accommodate this life changing event. Your performance is measured exactly the same as a full year, without carrying your child, and without giving birth. I do not believe that 10 weeks after you have given birth you are prepared and able to perform at an exceeding level. There can always be an option to come back sooner if you wish, but I think 4-6 months of paid time off would be best. Other countries have proven this to be a successful option. "
