I have worked in the financial business for over 30 years. I started as a young girl in a trading room in the early 1980s. very tough environment for women back then. Those experiences were invaluable and made me the women I am now. Schwab is the most civil work environment hand down from any firm I have worked for. It is a great place for women to work and not feel like they are second class citizens. I would HIGHLY recommend Schwab as a great place for women to work.

The issue with Schwab policy is that a lot relies on individual manager discretion. If you have a strict manager who doesn't believe in work-life balance, as I do currently, it can make your experience here quite difficult. Work loads are tremendous, so having some flexibility in schedule is really necessary, but I don't currently have that.

The finance industry is very male dominated, despite the efforts of this firm, there will still be barriers for women to overcome.

I would advise another woman to be herself and not feel the need to adhere to the "boys' club" culture that is often prevalent. I would also advise her to join our Womens Interactive Network (WINS).

It really varies from role to role, and definitely varies based on your specific manager. The entry-level roles are less flexible for schedules, whereas higher level roles become more flexible.

Improve compensation and promote more women to leadership positions. It would also be rather helpful to HIRE more women. I am on a team of 17, 4 of whom are women - and that is A LOT for our organization.

Great support, but room for improvement. Insurance does not support families as well as it could and maternity leave is below average.

You are truly part of a team dynamic here, and everyone supports others, especially during times of need due to illness, family leave, death in the family etc. There is a lot of effort to ensure you know you are cared for and support is always available.

The desire to be a company that treats all employees fairly is truly there. There is a lot of attention paid to diversity and bringing in more women to sales roles, technology roles and senior leadership roles. There is less success than they have hoped because of lack of applicants, which is representative of the investment services industry. I believe there will be success over time.

They do very well for an older established company, but could do better with their understanding/acceptance of working remotely.

Charles Schwab has great benefits and you can make long and fulfilling career here. Charles Schwab understands corporate responsibility and lives it too. Each employee is given paid time off to volunteer and builds "Green" operations center, Even though there is room for improvement, it is great place to start your career.

Schwab has an impressive number of women in leadership positions throughout the company. They have parent friendly policies and provide the flexibility needed to have the work-life balance that works for you.
