"Cisco offers a lot in terms of support, but more often than not, you have to go after what you want. There are mentorship programs, but the most successful folks are those who build their own networks, pursue specific mentors and sponsors, and personally invest in their own development. Employee Resource Organizations (ERO) such as Connected Women can help you find those resources."

"Customer Experience (specifically the group that was known as Technical Services) has always had one of the best cultures in respecting employees and ensuring that they are well taken care of, not only with work, but also with home and personal needs. It's the main reason why I have stayed with Cisco for the last 10 years."

"Since I had my children (5 and 7.5 years ago), Cisco has improved their maternity/paternity policies so that there is more paid time off given to start a family."

"Cisco is a hit or miss company, from a culture perspective. The leadership under which you find yourself will absolutely shape - for good or bad - the way in which you see your career prospects either progressing or stalling. There are still a large number of backward thinking higher-ups when it comes to the roles women can and do play in their organizations, and they are not about to go away any time soon. "

"There are pockets where women are being treated in a more equitable way, and pockets where things are as bad or worse than they were in Mad Men. It is a total toss-up, unfortunately, and you have to have your own back, as much as you have the backs of the women around you, while the structures and culture around advancement are woefully pinned to the fantasy of the "meritocracy." "Cisco really walks the talk when it comes to diversity and inclusion - with 50% of the ELT now being women. It is a large organization, so there are pockets where this might not be the case, but my team has been very focused on promoting diversity and focused on attracting women and creating a workplace where they are set up to succeed."

"Most teams are very flexible with working from remote locations, flexible hours. However, my team specifically does not allow much work from home unless there is a specific reason."
