"The challenge with tenure is that it gives professors the right to do almost anything they please without the possibility of firing (unless it's illegal). It also gives them the power to stay in the job for an eternity. Beware of working for professors; the culture of Universities can be very misogynistic and the professors have a certain immunity in perpetuating that. "

"I worked in a female-dominated department of a female-dominated field. Opportunities for advancement were nonexistent below the PhD level, and they created a special category of employment for individuals with Master's degrees in my, again, female-dominated field at a lower pay grade than many bachelor-level entry positions at the same institution."
