"Great if you want a job, but not promotion. Managers are not well trained, and often very bad at running programs or managing. Faculty are not natural leaders and make difficult and inexperienced managers. "

"All depends on your manager. Facetime is very important. "

"Yes"

"HR didn't process it correctly, the insurance I paid for only covered the first 6 weeks - not 12. None of this came to life until I began maternity leave. I was assured it covered 12 weeks by HR. THey now cover 6 weeks paid, and I would encourage you to double check if the insurance REALLY covers the next 6 weeks. "

"At Universities, there is a hierarchy which can put employees at the bottom. Also, because staffing turnover is low (tenure) there can be a lot of antiquated ideas about the roles of women in the workplace. Be ready to have it assumed that you're a secretary/admin rather than in leadership."

"The challenge with tenure is that it gives professors the right to do almost anything they please without the possibility of firing (unless it's illegal). It also gives them the power to stay in the job for an eternity. Beware of working for professors; the culture of Universities can be very misogynistic and the professors have a certain immunity in perpetuating that. "
