"Get active in the GM Women ERG. Network and meet as many people as possible. Do your core job VERY well, but look and ask for "stretch" projects. Observe what people who get promotions do, and you'll see what is valued in your department. If you are having difficulties with your manager, look for another department to work in. The quality of management varies significantly from department to department."

"Culture can vary by team and manager. Unfortunately, my experience was soured by seeing a manager praise, and reward men working on a project, but none of the women working on the same project and contributing equally. "

"Don't bother. You will be treated differently, and with a regard that you are worth less to the company. If you don't have children, you will be held to different standards to the women who do.
Management have no integrity around their mistakes, and at the same time their mistakes are brushed under the table. If you make a mistake, you will be treated as if you ruined the future of the company."

"I've spoken up about needing accommodations for a disability and was told to "think about the needs of my team first". I was also hired into my current role under a position that was not what it turned out to be, and have been told the equivalent of "oh well" when I expressed my concerns."

"My personal experience as a salaried employee in HR is that there is great flexibility. There is also a push to have a more diverse work force which means hiring more women. Our CEO is a woman and has worked for GM since she was 18 years old! I'm in HR/Talent Acquisition and I can do things like work remotely, in years past when my kids were still in school, I could have leave to go pick them up and work from home the rest of the day. I love that there are so many women available for mentoring too! An excellent place for women. "
