"Culture can vary by team and manager. Unfortunately, my experience was soured by seeing a manager praise, and reward men working on a project, but none of the women working on the same project and contributing equally. "

"Don't bother. You will be treated differently, and with a regard that you are worth less to the company. If you don't have children, you will be held to different standards to the women who do.
Management have no integrity around their mistakes, and at the same time their mistakes are brushed under the table. If you make a mistake, you will be treated as if you ruined the future of the company."

"I've spoken up about needing accommodations for a disability and was told to "think about the needs of my team first". I was also hired into my current role under a position that was not what it turned out to be, and have been told the equivalent of "oh well" when I expressed my concerns."

"Always be the type of woman that lifts up and supports other women, I see too many female managers that are 100% about themselves being the only woman on a team."

"My personal experience as a salaried employee in HR is that there is great flexibility. There is also a push to have a more diverse work force which means hiring more women. Our CEO is a woman and has worked for GM since she was 18 years old! I'm in HR/Talent Acquisition and I can do things like work remotely, in years past when my kids were still in school, I could have leave to go pick them up and work from home the rest of the day. I love that there are so many women available for mentoring too! An excellent place for women. "

"GM has overall been a great place to work for the past 6 years. That being said, my view has been tainted in the last year though. Some of the HR policies that are in place around who can be promoted are out dated and need to be seriously reviewed if they want to retain their talent. I have been the lead on many projects, and 2 years ago I was told I was on track to be made an official lead. Throughout the year I checked in with my managers to get feedback and make sure that I was still on track when promotion time came around. I did not get the promotion... but was told definitely the next year I would get it. To compensate I was given a healthy pay bump. This past year, again I checked in with my managers throughout the year and was told I was on track. This year again I was again not promoted! I was even told that I was ranked in the top 2 of performers for my overall team of 60+. Eventually I did find out that the reason I was not promoted was not because of my performance but because of an outdated HR rule that says that in order to be promoted the person must fall on or above the mid-point of their current role's salary range. Because my salary was too low, despite at least 3 managers advocating on my behalf the promotion was turned down. I was very dissapointed... here is to hoping for next year... and hopefully HR re-evaluating their priorities."
