"GM has overall been a great place to work for the past 6 years. That being said, my view has been tainted in the last year though. Some of the HR policies that are in place around who can be promoted are out dated and need to be seriously reviewed if they want to retain their talent. I have been the lead on many projects, and 2 years ago I was told I was on track to be made an official lead. Throughout the year I checked in with my managers to get feedback and make sure that I was still on track when promotion time came around. I did not get the promotion... but was told definitely the next year I would get it. To compensate I was given a healthy pay bump. This past year, again I checked in with my managers throughout the year and was told I was on track. This year again I was again not promoted! I was even told that I was ranked in the top 2 of performers for my overall team of 60+. Eventually I did find out that the reason I was not promoted was not because of my performance but because of an outdated HR rule that says that in order to be promoted the person must fall on or above the mid-point of their current role's salary range. Because my salary was too low, despite at least 3 managers advocating on my behalf the promotion was turned down. I was very dissapointed... here is to hoping for next year... and hopefully HR re-evaluating their priorities."

"I really recommend working for GM. It has very flexible working hours, and work-life balance is great. With Covid impacting everyone's life, there has been a lot of empathy and I strongly believe this is thanks to having women in leadership rolls (from the CEO, to VPs, Directors, Managers, etc). Parental/Family leave policies are very competitive, and I would like to share that the company supports "working and pumping moms", there are very nice pumping rooms in almost every building. "

"The company is changing, that's evident. But there are still pockets and groups that do things the "old way", where men are treated better than women and I feel like an outsider. But is is definitely moving in the right direction. "

"GM is an inclusive company, we have many females in leadership who understand the challenges that come with being female (parents and non-parents). There are some challenges with work/life balance but overall I have found leaders to always do their best to be empathetic and understanding. GM sometimes is thought of as an old school company, but it really is a technology and innovative company that is embracing a culture of inclusion and supporting those with bold ideas. Constantly seeking equity for all."

"We offer 12 weeks of paid family leave (birth, adoption, caretaker, etc.), if you tack this onto FMLA for birth (6-8 weeks) you end up with about 18-20 weeks of PTO for family/PPL. "
