"The culture at Seagate is very inclusive. I have never felt additional challenges in my role at Seagate because of my gender or race. Management and HR are readily available in case of any disruptions. All employee's are required to take training on our HR policies to promote inclusion and report poor behavior. Seagate also offers ally groups such as the Women's Leadership Network to connect with other women in the workplace. "

"Engineering culture in the US in Seagate is very male dominated. Cronyism is rampant which typically leaves women out of management. There is no recognition of gender bias or inequity- the topic is taboo even is management groups focused on employee engagement and inclusion. Gender employment data is difficult to get despite years of promises from the CEO for transparency. Goals for hiring women are not shared even with managers. Top female engineering managers were removed from management with feeble excuses and new rules- “You need a PhD to manage engineers” even though the male directors do not have PhDs.
Feminine expression (dresses/makeup) is marginalized and makes many male managers and co-workers uncomfortable. Female engineers are forced to walk the tightrope in presentation and assertiveness.
My personal story is being removed from management after 24 years of leadership and an impeccable record after coming out as a transgender woman. I was bullied, mobbed, and harassed. I was being set up for layoff, but took a separation package to retain some dignity. HR and Legal defend the patriarchal autocracy and would not address fairness.
I led Diversity & Inclusion activity as the founder of PRIDE!, the LGBTQ+ ERG in Seagate. I can assure you, diversity and inclusion in Seagate is all window dressing.
