USAID is still an old boy's club. It can be a great place to work for a lot of reasons, but you need to go into it aware - be prepared for sexism.

Maybe. If you want to work here for the mission and values, the overseas lifestyle, etc. then it can be a good place to work. But women at USAID face challenges on a daily basis. From being the only woman at a table full of old men, to having men talk over you, interrupt, and claim your ideas as their own, to discrimination in the assignments process, to getting assigned to a certain house in the housing pool because of your "lifestyle as a single woman", it really never ends. . .

Meet the leadership you would work directly with and try to meet experienced women in the office.

This office has strong policies and pay scales in place. Gender is more of a subjective issue, where few women are promoted, and women must put in more than their male peers to succeed. The top leadership is phenomenal and always improving, but this agency suffers at the middle management level and needs a lot of improvement. This is a review of Office of Inspector General - usaid

Beware the old boys club. There is a facade of equality, but in daily life you often encounter sexism.

On the GS scale so feels fairly equal when it comes to compensation, but sometimes men get more recognition for their work. Overall, very flexible hours if you need to leave to pick up your child or have a doctor's appointment in the afternoon - but this is dependent on your direct supervisor.

No unpaid leave with the Federal Government. You can only take what you have accumulated for sick and annual leave.
