"Really if you are lucky and get a good and kind boss, stick with him/ her. If you are unlucky and get one who won't give you work-life balance and makes you stay in the office until 2 am or more, quit. Your life and health and that of your family, especially kids, is worth more than the high salary you get from UN peacekeeping. If you stay, you will be miserable and suffer from burnout. Then they will not want you and you will not be employable and worse of all will not be able to care for your family. Do self care and get therapy and do burnout retreats since burnout is a real problem in this organisation. "

"While the goal of the Agency is laudable, seeing the federal government in action can be nauseating at times. Choose your Operating Unit carefully, do your due diligence on the people with whom you'll be working. There are many smart, motivated, and dedicated people here. There are also duds who are a drain, as well as politically motivated opportunists. Choose with whom you consort carefully. "

"Flexibility varies by manager. Some are very hands-off and offer you total autonomy, including when you work. Others are far more old school and want to see you 9 to 5, day in and day out. "

"There is no maternity leave so you have to either save all sick and annual leave or take leave without pay. If you qualify, colleagues can donate leave to you."
