"If you don't qualify for FMLA ( I was about 2 months short of qualifying), then they won't even allow a 6 week leave. Meanwhile, Florida law won't let daycares accept a baby younger than 6 weeks. UWF has a written policy allowing up to 6 months parental leave, but does not honor it. All maternity is at supervisor's discretion to approve and HR is disorganized and slow and won't get involved. So you need to be careful about what department you are coming into. I'm salaried and classed as staff, not faculty. Of course, all maternity is unpaid for all employees regardless of classification."
