Board of Director--Reverse Search?

HI All--wondering if anyone else has had any experiences with reverse search firms to help secure paid board of directors work. I realize this would be more for senior professionals, but hoping perhaps someone on this group would have some input on whether these are worth the expense. Thanks.

So I've now had two conversations with people who have worked with one of these firms. Theirs has been a pretty good, but perhaps not stellar experience from what I can glean. Both are real people I spoke to via zoom or phone. Both have landed board positions from their work with a reverse search firm. Both felt that it worked better when people were still meeting face to face. Both are getting minimal compensation, one is on two boards: one that is a start up with stock shares as compensation and one that is volunteer. The second person has two start ups in their board portfolio that he credits the reverse search firm with getting him. They are compensated with dividends or stock shares. Both of these folks I spoke with were positive about their experiences both pointing to the value of the courses and training as well as the CV/resume revisions that were offered as part of the services. Both said the jobs board is helpful for making connections. Neither felt that there was a lot of money to be made, but interesting work with some level of compensation is more how I would describe it. Both indicated that their experiences with the people who signed them up was a little too "sales-y" but in the end the system worked for them. Hope that those findings are helpful.

I’m glad you are asking this question. I’ve been approached by these types of companies too. The general advice I’ve heard is that it’s not worth the cost. I’m hoping someone who is serving on a board can give us some insights!
